What: Omi has created a SaaS platform that allows clients to model and render 3D photos and videos of their brand and products to achieve photo-realistic quality for virtual worlds. The service requires no coding skills or formal design skills. The goal is to be Canva for Web3 and the metaverse to help refine e-commerce, marketing, and advertising for these new digital spaces.

Why: As the pandemic accelerates digital transformation, brands need more and higher-quality online content. This can be complex enough with existing e-commerce and social spaces, but the rapid growth of Web3 and the metaverse added another layer of complexity and opportunity. With design resources already stretched thin, Omi wants to simplify these virtual design tasks to make them more efficient and allow more experimentation as brands try to understand how to navigate these new digital terrains.

Who: Co-founders are brothers Hugo and Paul Borensztein. Hugo is the former Director of Southern Europe Operations at Facebook and Instagram. Paul is a former Software Engineer at Zenly and Payfit.

Seed Round: €6 million

Investors: Dawn Capital led the round which also included money from Pareto Holdings, Financière Saint James (Veepee.com’s cofounder family office), Motier Ventures (Galeries Lafayette family office), and Famille C Venture (Clarins family office). Angel investors participating included Founders Future’s Marc Ménasé, Zenly cofounder Alexis Bonillo, Deezer founder Daniel Marhely, and Voodoo co-founder Laurent Ritter.

What's next: Omi will use the funding to continue R&D and launch an international expansion. In the short term, that likely means Southern Europe and the UK. Longer term, the company plans to target the U.S. Omi is hiring.
